“No flour, no Torah; no Torah, no flour.” - Pirkei Avot 3:21
Prepare toasted nuts before making a batter or dough, except where a recipe indicates otherwise.
There are two methods for toasting nuts:
1. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Spread the shelled nuts on a baking sheet in single layer and bake for about 10 minutes. Shake the pan midway to prevent sticking and scorching.
2. Toast the shelled nuts in a hot, dry skillet on the stove. Stir constantly until the nuts become aromatic, about five minutes.
Cool and then chop the nuts to the desired size.
"The Torah begins and ends with acts of loving kindness."
– Babylonian Talmud, Sotah 14a
