“No flour, no Torah; no Torah, no flour.” – Pirkei Avot 3:21
Most of the world uses metric measurements. Oven settings also vary. Here are some basic metric measurement and oven temperature conversions for baking.
Some of these metric amounts are rounded, but this should not effect the end results in small quantities. Liquids are measured in milliliters (ml); solids are measured in grams (g).
1 teaspoon = 5 milliliters/grams
1 tablespoon = 15 milliliters/grams
1 ounce = 28.35 milliliters/grams
1 cup = 227 milliliters/grams
1 pound = 450 milliliters/grams
2.2 pounds = 1 kilogram
For ovens with temperature settings in centigrade or gas marks, use these equivalents:
225° F = 100° C or Gas Mark ¼
250° F = 130° C or Gas Mark ½
275° F = 140° C or Gas Mark 1
300° F = 150° C or Gas Mark 2
325° F = 170° C or Gas Mark 3
350° F = 180° C or Gas Mark 4
375° F = 190° C or Gas Mark 5
400° F = 200° C or Gas Mark 6
425° F = 220° C or Gas Mark 7
450° F = 230° C or Gas Mark 8
475° F = 240° C or Gas Mark 9
